This is a project inspired by Stacey David on Gearz. He did a project called Knuckle Buster where he took a 1973 Chevy Truck and rebuilt it into a super nice daily driver using simple tools that anyone could do in their driveway. While he did a great job and did it inexpensively, I still don’t have that kind of a budget. I can’t afford a new crate engine or SSBC brake upgrades. But I can still build a daily driver in the spirit of Knuckle Buster.
I’m staring with a 1986 Ford F150 Flareside in quite good condition. Two minor rust spots in the floor, the wood bed is rotted out but all in all it’s in good shape. Since I don’t know the history of the engine it’s getting replaced along with key suspension parts. Then freshen up the interior and paint and I’ll have a daily driver I’ll be proud to be seen in. Why do it? No monthly payments with interest, cheap insurance rates, simple and easy to work on, parts at any Auto parts store, and lots of shops in case I can’t fix it myself. But most important I’m recycling a vehicle that would have ended up in a scrap yard or rusting away in a field.
It’s going to be fun and I only have 6 months to finish it. That’s when Jake turns 16yo and I have to give up my Colorado.
